President's Message

Welcome to the site of the NSW Secondary Principals' Council. We are an incorporated body, representing over 470 principals of government high and central schools across the state. We are advocates for the interests and needs of secondary principals. We provide support for our members, organise professional development activities and offer collegiality to our fellow principals.

We believe that in carrying out our role we will be enhancing learning outcomes for students. Our day-to-day work includes providing forums for professional debate; representing the views of principals to officers of the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) and to the Minister for Education; co-ordinating developmental activities which assist principals to be better informed school leaders; providing advice; producing and distributing publications; and delivering professional learning programs. We have formed a Leadership Alliance with the NSW Primary Principals' Association and DET.

We are affiliated with the Australian Secondary Principals' Association (ASPA) and the International Confederation of Principals (ICP). Membership of our Council is open to all principals of public high schools, colleges, community schools (K-12), central schools and schools for specific purposes with secondary enrolments. Our regional organisation is a democratic, representative model of decision making, with the State Assembly being the pre-eminent decision-making body. We also have a participative model of expert reference groups of principals working in a parallel way and having support and advocacy functions.

Ninety-eight per cent of those eligible belong to our Council. This gives us the legitimacy to speak for and represent the principals of our public secondary schools. It also means we have the expertise and skills in the various issues which challenge educational decision-makers today and into the future.
