1. ADVOCACY:

Use the NSW Secondary Principals Council as a forum for advocating the qualities of students in public schools.

- Positive marketing and reporting.

- Resources follow positive results

- NSW Secondary Principals Council and Principals support state Student Representative Council (SRC).

- Principals to mentor SRCs at school, district and state .

1.1 Council establish a team to work closely with the SRC.

1.2 Public Education forum.

1.3 District Secondary Principal Council nominate a Principal to work with District SRC.

2. LOBBYING:

NSW Secondary Principals Council will strengthen and extend the density and involvement of Principals in influencing public education policy.

- Government will recognise the Council will "talk" to all parties.

- 2 to 3 issues focused on per campaign.

- Use of Council as political tool to influence policy. 2.1 Dialogue with major parties (Lower House) and minor parties (Upper House).

2.2 Strategic use of "press releases" and briefings to District reps.

2.3 Meeting with local MPs

3. PROMOTION:

Use local and state media to positively influence public opinion about public education.

- Need for recognition that NSW Secondary Principals Council has some "independent" views. - Need to seek media and political training. 3.1 Establish "media" teams - face of public education.

3.2 Positive anecdote management.

3.3 Establishment of public education forum. (NSWSPC, NSWPPA, NSWTF, NSWP&C, SRC, FOSCO, DET)

3.4 Media training for all Principals.

4. SELF-EVALUATION:

Build a structure which more inclusively represents secondary school leaders.

 

 

- Greater coordination. - Leadership teams in schools.

- Strategic involvement of senior executive.

4.1 A Deputy Principal / Leading Teacher in each Futures Project Team.

4.2 Develop a process where project teams and reference groups have a "shelf life" or re-cycle.

4.3 Investigate and implement ®.

4.4 Maintain "Futures Project".

5. PARTNERSHIPS:

Establish local partnerships to support public education.

    5.1 Establish inter-agency contact at district level.

5.2 Active promotion of schools and public education in local media.

5.3 Create systems to build partnerships with local TAFE, universities etc.

5.4 NSW Secondary Principals Council to comment on local issues.
