2010 - Trends and Events that would have Significant Impact.

1. Technology:
  • learning at home, 24 hour availability nationally and internationally.
  • pedagogy, teacher as facilitator.
2. Organisation:
  • different concept of what constitutes a "school".
  • a variety of providers and modes of delivery (to include social agencies available "inhouse")
3. A greater understanding of how a student knows, how they are able to understand and the best process that enables them to do so.
4. The curriculum will change - different subject specificity.
5. Leaving age (exit point) will be based on necessary achievement of minimum competency levels, including academic, social and vocational elements.
6. Learner driven learning through tightening of regulations will emphasise people taking greater responsibility for their learning outcomes.
7. Different demands for teacher expertise:
  • technology expert
  • knowledge base
  • how students learn and intelligences
  • facilitator.
Minimum teacher qualifications will increase and pay will be performance based.
8. The exit qualification for students will become an internationally recognised qualification.
